Administrative
Matters
2013 membership
renewals are under way. Temporary cards will be issued, pending completion of
renewal background checks. Metro will once again be reimbursing the cost of
background checks for active officials. However, it is requested that you wait
until after January 1, 2013 to renew your background check, as the rates
drop from $39 to $19 on January 1. Please contact me if you have any
questions.
Tip of the
Week
Situation: A swimmer in
the 100 yard butterfly takes a simultaneous two-arm pull, kicks several times
with her arms at her sides, brings both arms simultaneously forward over the
water, keeps her arms stretched out in front of her for several kicks and then
does another simultaneous two-arm pull. She repeats this process throughout the
swim. Should she be disqualified?
Recommended
Resolution: There should
be no disqualification. There is no rule requiring an arm stroke between leg
kicks. The swimmer may kick as many times as desired between strokes as long as
both legs kick simultaneously.
Applicable
Rules: 101.3.2,
101.3.3
With all the 8
& under swimmers last weekend, we saw quite a few unusual strokes. But
unusual is not illegal as long as it does not violate the rules of the stroke.
Thanks to all
who worked at last weekend’s meets – we had a great turnout and everything ran
smoothly as a result. Have a great week and I hope to see everyone on deck
soon!
